names lack , book of Maruja Vieira has a particularity: they are poems dedicated to characters who live in the memories of the poet. People who inhabited this world and now live elsewhere. The first, Al friend trip is dedicated to Miró Baltasar , "an exodus of English and tears as called León Felipe those displaced by the English Civil War" , explained in previous page to the poem. Be the first time he would hear that name.

The next time was an afternoon last November. Juliana Pocurull Barberena came to the writing of The Spectator with a particular application. He claimed to be the granddaughter of a friend of the poet Maruja Vieira. Had spent years collecting information about his grandfather English and asked if we could put you in touch with her. Is it true? While the case was not given a phone number that could be unwise, there was something inviting open the door to the past.

's meeting with the granddaughter Molly Baltasar unknown Miró, whose original name was Baltasar Pocurull, was recorded in a documentary being made about the writer. Juliana's face is the best proof of the veracity of his story. Even was her resemblance to his grandfather which allowed the English family of Pocurull believe that after some time living in Dominicapa Republic and Colombia, to work in the Sunday supplement of El Tiempo and write 10 Poems bitter and Notebooks border, Miró married in Cali and went in search of a better destination in Argentina, where her only daughter and finished serving his appointment with death.

was a letter from Molly, who, with no more than 25 years, just started in the world of letters, leading to Juliana to seek the track of a grandparent who does not appear in the records of immigration and who do not know exactly how he died (in his book Chronicles of the Barranquilla Group, Alfonso Fuenmayor dares to talk suicide, that does not support his family.) A meeting that would allow him to find out through someone who gave reason was because my grandmother always refused to tell his story and his mother did not know him.

De Maruja mouth, Juliana knew that his grandfather had come to Colombia disappointed in the Trujillo dictatorship in the Dominican Republic, a country that tried to do after his exile in Spain. Knew his book cartons border on the risks of Haitian migration to the neighboring country and the kindness of the Dominican dictator's policies had been written in Spain before coming to the island and that the failure to use his middle name could be related to the exile of two countries: the Franco-dominated and ruled by Trujillo. He also confirmed that looked left novel Baltasar unpublished and it was he who opened the door to his writings in EI Tiempo.
. Juliana
not fail to find traces that give proof of his grandfather's passing through this world, for she has become a reason. To Vieira also the thrill of seeing him drawn in the features of this woman, was the conviction that his friend would not be reluctant to leave and how she wrote it, "your absence you are filling our memory."

By friend on his trip

Remembering Miro Baltasar

Dude, your solitude over a man. Because your concern is
silt beneath the dark earth. You
cloud of dust, you rock, you are wheat.
're no longer stars in the mud of the world.

Now roads run on your blood,
converted into the green touch of the grass.
not the silence hurts her spine and anguish

because your voice has become rustling in the trees.

Death does not claim to give them your name
the exact dimension of love or hate.
No distance oppose its border closed
your absence you are filling our memory. +++++++

. Suffice

transcribing the unpublished poem full of Maruja Vieira, entitled The 85 * and we would not need to say more about this woman today, as she, with simplicity and depth that characterize his poetry, condensed into 20 lines the meaning of his life and issues at this time. However, the history of Manizales, which weighed anchor early age to pursue writing and working in radio and press, is an example of tenacity, talent and sensitivity.

addition to having been part of a generation of poets with a capital (with Meira Delmar, Matilde Espinoza between others) and a member of the Colombian Academy of Language, Vieira is still valid and active in the trade that came to her as a child, but only after knowing the work of Antonio Machado at age 19 decided to write.

ran the 40's when he read a book called Dawn of Oblivion (1942), of Meira Delmar. Even then he dared to some verses. And also the days with Enrique Uribe White , his kinsman, reader and mentor, were long and many of his poems ended up submerged in the lagoon of Muna. So, wanted to write like her, but chose to become his inseparable friend. So, he says, called, introduced himself and spent his life talking and corresponding with this fellow who had given her poetry.

A Maruja, while talking to her friends of the soul, a twinkle in her eyes, the joy of remembering becomes waterlogged in a "sleeper tears" of nostalgia. But why not! Sighs and remembers her cat María Mercedes Carranza; ** Dora Castellanos, partner at the Academy, and Elisa Mujica, who was proposed for membership of the institution, she and Matilde Espinoza were inseparable. Even in the evenings, from the window of his home at 49 with 3 ª, looks up the mountain was the home of his friend and accomplice of adventures. And while talking of his professional colleagues and sensitivities, I can not avoid mentioning that while fighting poets living in this means of letters and vanities, women were united. "Oh, you were so lonely and neglected that we had no way not to be. But besides of course, with such wonderful women. "

is true, but Molly worked since he left Venezuela in the 50's on the radio and then on Venezuelan television, although he wrote in El Tiempo and El Espectador, the "pillar of smoke," although Advanced was a woman married only after 30 to who would become the love of his life, the poet José María Vivas, only time has given her and her companions, the Category that his talent deserves.

But the recognition or lack of it is none of this beautiful woman, whose voice evokes memories slow and serious, and explains how poetry came to her as a child and how it keeps coming, with its inner musicality, with its contents with the force should have a poem that does not turn into a cage of 14 bars as some of the sonnets Uribe White did him the favor of drowning.

Also remember that dinner in Cali when a man entered with a white head that shook her world. "It was love at first sight but second thought, because I knew the poetry of José María Balcázar Vivas. There, after reciting one of those poems Bolivarian she knew, she remembered her friend Molly Venezuelan Carlos Vivas, who had just died, and could not help the tears. Then, the poet took his hand and "If you see, me not yet been released. I always knew that love is stronger than death, so I think in eternal love, he died in 1960 and here I am ... "I would add what she already said of herself brazenly alive." --------------

THE . 85

Ana Mercedes Vivas

At 85 we are blatantly living.
are supposed to love us
should know that walking is not the joy of prior
unless the sun and the grass.,
It
supposed to know that our nights are too long,
because we have to go to bed early
and there are many things that we can not go
because we are tired. But we live openly

and not our eyes,
is the light that weakens as we read
and not our ears,
is the voice of others is no longer sound.
is the streets that have become
too long, the stairs are too high.
But we live openly and some lucky

have a window where the sun shines in the afternoon
and a voice that calls us beloved.
